Items relate to the death and obsequies of Brigadier General Persifor F. Smith of New Orleans, La. They include clippings of newspaper obituaries describing the circumstances of his death and providing a brief account of his life and military career, with a particular focus on his service in the Mexican War. Other clippings give details relating to the funeral, which took place in Philadelphia, Pa., and the later return of his remains to New Orleans, La.
